I Paid A Stranger $10 To Design My Living Room
You are looking at your computer screen and I am sure that you said “I paid a stranger $10 to design my living room!” What did the person do for you? What was their intent in doing so? Why should you have allowed them to? How much more can you say about these strangers?
A lot of times we get in touch with those people that want to help us achieve something. They may be contractors or interior designers. We let them do a short job on our homes so that we can move on with our lives. It seems okay at the time but we often look back at this and wonder what they were trying to accomplish!
Now, I did not pay anyone to do this job. I was working on a home project and needed someone to come in and do some quick drywall so that I could install the trim piece without having to take it down. The contractor was a good guy and a few days later, I was excited as can be felt by the framed wall panel sitting proudly behind me!
Well, what a waste of time!
The drywall did not install properly and there was no trim to trim around it. There were flaws in the design and badly glued edges. I asked the contractor if he could bring in some extra bucks to do a little touch up. He said no because the contractor just wanted to get paid and would not spend any more time on my living room.
I went to my local home improvement store and bought an inexpensive electrical tape measure. I measured the dimensions of the holes that were in the wall and I marked those out with pencil. I decided that I would hire someone to do all the framing because I did not want to bother with framing each individual hole. I figured I would just hire someone to paint the living room one color and to hang a few wall decorations so that my room had a cohesive theme.
A month later, while I was doing a spring cleaning, I noticed that one of the pictures in my living room had somehow been damaged. I asked my husband where it went and he told me that someone had thrown it during a game of basketball. I was upset, but I didn’t know what to do! I decided to go online to see if I could find out who threw it! That’s when I learned that someone paid someone to do an expensive living room job!
I am thankful that I had a system that I could use to figure out who did this!
If I did not have this type of planning I am not sure how I would have known who did this. Now I do not have to hire anyone to get this information for me. I can simply look online every time I want to find out more about who has come into my home to work on my home! I am extremely grateful for the information I now have at my fingertips.
I am not going to let this happen to other people who do not have a good system in place. I will never let this happen to me again! If you are a home owner, or a landlord, and you need to know who has come into your house to work on your home, I strongly urge you to consider installing a video surveillance camera. This is the best way to catch someone in the act of doing something you will not stand for!
